The Stupidest Decision You Can Make…

Published by Paul Kleinmeulman Under General on 28 August, 2006, 8:56 pm

G’ Day {fnTagMarketers},

I just had somebody who wrote his own unique e-book on how to get your own unique content for free (it certainly opened my eyes). He contacted me because he was proposing a joint venture. He was going to sell this e-book (which comes with special software) for $67.00 and I was interested so I read his evaluation copy.

The next day he emails me the following…

Hi Again Paul,

Just so you know, after further reflection, and gauging reactions so far, I have had a rethink about the originally stated pricing policy.

I can see more possibilities if I price it at, say $29, with master resell rights. I might have to make a few minor changes in the book because of this, but essentially, this is it!

Hope that plan change meets with your approval, and that you can use the book.

Look forward to hearing from you,

All the best,

I replied back with…

Why in the world would you do that?

That is a ridiculously low price… and I would never offer master resell rights.

What are you doing?

He promptly replied back with the following email (I’m not known for my finesse).

Hi Paul,

Couldn’t really ask for a straighter point of view than that, could !?

But thats great feedback, so thanks.

Most other people that I have had feedback from have been big in favour of both a lower price than the original $67 AND adding the MSR’s.

But, truthfully, this is my first time for launching my own product like this, and other people like yourself have far more experience, so I have gone into this pretty open mided as far as sales price and charging structure are concerned.

You are obviously no big fan of low prices + MSR.

How so?

Look forward to hearing from you, and your advices are very much appreciated,

Regards,

And now listen to my reply and take close notice.

Well < Name Removed For Privacy >,

I don’t know who you asked about your pricing points and rights but I am pretty sure they were not successful marketers because nobody in their right mind would offer that and expect to make money from it.

This is a unique product… but as soon as you offer master rights I could purchase it and then sell them for $1 on ebay and you wouldn’t see a penny from it. That is why I would never offer master resell rights because you have no control over anything.

When you lower the price you devalue the product. With the ebook and the bonus software you have a solid product that is worth 47 - 67 but when you lower the price to 27 most people will think it is garbage and only the freebie seekers will want to purchase it… thus you devalue it without even thinking.

That’s why,

Sincerely,

Did you pick that up?

If you are creating a business then the last thing that you want to do is take a unique product and throw it in the garbage by allowing other people to sell it with master resale rights because the moment you do, you lose all legal controls and they can sell it at whatever price they think is best and you don’t make any money from it.

Plus if you lower the price you wont necessary increase sales because if you devalue the product at the same time then you are actually going to hurt sales.

A lot of newbies think that by lowering the price and by offering extra rights you are going to make more money because you are increasing sales but unless you have links built in to benefit from the viral effect then you are not doing yourself a favor at all. Because that is where the benefit of a lower price and extra rights really come in when you are creating a viral effect.

So in closing all I want to say is, don’t make the stupidest mistake of your life. Think like a real business owner instead.
Sincerely,
